MISSOULA – Understanding how company resources are handled and moved along a supply chain are critical elements to nearly every business. Beginning this fall, students at the University of Montana will have the opportunity to take a deep dive into these concepts and processes in the Opportunities and Challenges in Logistics and Transportation course at the College of Business.

Career opportunities in logistics and supply chain are currently on the rise. This course prepares students for those opportunities by covering fundamental logistics concepts and applying them to cases and cutting-edge industry practices. Students will gain a greater understanding of logistics and supply chain management, as well as the skills and attributes required to succeed in the field.

The course, sponsored by Wilson Logistics, was formed in collaboration with a taskforce comprised of representatives and alumni from companies involved in logistics.

“We hope this course helps students gain an awareness of the significance that logistics plays as the backbone of business in America,” Wilson Logistics Vice President Kameron Wilson said. “Current employment opportunities in the logistics space are booming, and we’d like to help more students find their passion in the logistics space.”

The three-credit course, taught in the marketing and management department at the College of Business, is open to all business majors and junior standing or higher non-business majors. A graduate option is also available during the fall.

Professor of marketing and Wilson Logistics Faculty Fellow, Dr. Simona Stan will be the instructor for the course. Stan has a background in engineering, and has been at UM for 14 years. She teaches marketing and served as the Master of Business Administration (MBA) Director for the College of Business from 2010 – 2017.

Wilson Logistics is a family-owned and operated technology enabled asset-based Logistics Provider with over 1,100 trucks, growing Intermodal, 3PL, and Brokerage divisions.
