College of Business now offering flexible delivery in MSBA program

MISSOULA - It is now more convenient for anyone in the state — or the world — to prepare themselves for a successful career at the intersection of business, statistics, and computing. The University of Montana (UM) College of Business has redesigned its Master’s of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) program so students can earn a degree regardless of their schedule or where they are.
The program lets students choose between attending traditional face-to-face classes, participating in recorded lectures online, or logging-in to live classrooms by teleconference from any location worldwide. Students can even blend all three content delivery options depending on their individual needs throughout the semester.
“The trend for graduate programs is going to a flexible delivery model,” said Dawn Hambrick, the program’s director. “The UM College of Business is known for personalized program design and dedication to each student’s success. Offering a flexible delivery option enhances our dedication to a valued education, while still meeting individual students’ personal and professional goals.”
The MSBA is a built on a 32-credit curriculum (http://bit.ly/31mM72G), consisting of 20 required course credits, and 12 credits of electives. Students can specialize their program through the various elective tracks (technical, strategic, general, etc.) with electives reaching across the university departments, to include, but not limited to, computer science, mathematics, journalism and economics. Full-time students with a previous undergraduate degree in business can complete the accelerated program in just one year. Part-time students will be able to earn their degree in two to five years based around their personal and professional schedules.
“Since starting the MSBA program, I've gone from not knowing a programming language to working with tens of millions of data points,” MSBA student Sarah Thompson said. “I've doubled my future potential income and expanded my career opportunities, and I've formed relationships with industry professionals that act as mentors, pushing me to my fullest potential.”
All coursework focuses on providing experience with both hard-technical skills and soft-business skills. The core curriculum includes the study of business intelligence, big data analytics, business statistics, statistical computing, data mining and management, and communicating insights based on data analysis and associated decision-making.
All MSBA students, on and off campus, have access to the Gianchetta Student Success Center, which includes, internship and career development opportunities through the College of Business.
The MSBA program has partnered with the business community and other organizations to provide several resources for graduates (http://bit.ly/2BhVypt). Not only are these partners providing invaluable datasets for students and serving as in class speakers, they also actively look to recruit talent from the program. Having the relationship with these businesses have led to several job placements for our graduates.
No matter where they are, geographically or in their careers, now is a great time for students to pursue an MSBA.
“The MSBA is an incredible opportunity for students to launch into highly recruited careers,” College of Business Interim Dean Suzanne Tilleman said.
The deadline to apply for the 2020 spring semester is fast approaching. Applicants must have materials submitted by Dec. 1 for consideration. In order to be considered for scholarships and graduate assistantship opportunities for the fall 2020 semester, priority applications are due by Feb. 1, 2020.
