Dean for a Day

Do you have aspirations of becoming a CEO, COO, or academic dean? Have you ever wondered what a business school dean does or wanted to experience running a complex organization? Then the second annual Dean for a Day contest is for you. (Read about the first Dean for a Day event held in 2016.

You’ll do everything he would do for one day, including attending his meetings. Depending on that day’s calendar you might meet with the university president or provost, the school’s development director, and one of our donors. In turn, Dean Shook will attend your classes and activities for that day — it might be a club sports practice or a student organization meeting — whatever you have lined up for that day. 

Contest Rules

  1. The contest is open to upper-division business students (declared ACCT, FIN, MGMT, MIS, MKTG, INTL).
  2. You must be available on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, or Thursday, November 30, 2017, from 7:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  3. You should have at least two classes on your schedule November 29 or November 30.

To Apply

  1. Follow or like the School of Business on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram if you haven’t already. (Bonus points if you encourage your friends on social media to do the same thing!)
  2. Complete the online application by Friday, October 13.
  3. Finalists selected will submit a 30-60 second video explaining why they should trade places with Dean Shook and be “Dean for a Day.” Video submission deadline is Friday, November 3.
  4. Videos will be posted online and voted on by students, alumni, and faculty. Voting closes Friday, November 17.
  5. Student Dean for a Day will be notified on Monday, November 20.
  6. Student Dean for a Day will post on social media throughout the day of Wednesday, November 29.
