Welcome to the University of Montana College of Business!

We’ve been helping launch the careers of Montana’s leaders and innovators since the School of Business Administration first enrolled students in 1918. Today, we have a new name, the College of Business. These two facts help define who we are: An institution that honors longstanding traditions of excellence while embodying creative thinking, forward progress, and growth.

What is it like to be part of an organization like this?

As an alumnus, it means being one of our nearly 20,000 graduates. Our alumni help lead global companies like Microsoft, Nike, KPMG, and Boeing, and have careers as accountants, IT consultants, marketing and finance professionals, managers and entrepreneurs in Montana and beyond. As a new grad, it means likely having a job within three months of graduation – our alumni are known for entering the workforce not only with business skills but also with a liberal arts foundation that lets them do things like write well and think critically.

As a student, entering our college means being supported and inspired. A strong majority of our students participate in internships; our well-connected and accomplished faculty are constantly mentoring students outside of class and inviting business leaders to connect with students; our Gianchetta Student Success Center is a one-stop-shop for advising, supplemental workshops, and more; and there are ample opportunities to study abroad and participate in student organizations.

Being a business student at UM means access to top-notch degrees. Our college has tied for best business school in the Big Sky Conference for 2018 according to U.S. News & World Report the past two years. That makes us the highest ranked Montana business school by nearly 100 spots. We offer undergraduate majors in accounting, finance, international business, management, management information systems, and marketing. Students also can earn certificates in any of six areas, and a minor in business administration complements any major offered at UM.

At the graduate level, the college offers the only accredited master of accountancy in Montana and the first master of science in business analytics in the Pacific Northwest. Our master of business administration, which is the only degree of its kind in the state, lets students earn their diploma without stepping foot on campus.

There’s so much more to gain from being associated with our college. Thanks for stopping by, and please, follow us at @UMontanaBiz or contact us at officeofthedean@mso.umt.edu to learn more.
