How many scholarships does COB award?

The College of Business awarded 136 scholarships, totaling over $325,000, for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Am I eligible to receive a scholarship?

Students in the College of Business are eligible to apply for scholarships during their sophmore, junior and senior year and/or as graduate students in the MBA, MSBA and MAcct programs. Scholarships are competitive, and the submission of an application does not guarantee a scholarship award. All eligible students, however, are encouraged to apply.

Undergraduate Eligibility

  • Attain sophmore, junior or senior status (30 or more credits completed) by the end of spring semester 2018
  • If going to be a junior for fall 2018 (60 credits), have declared one of the six business majors (Accounting, Finance, International Business, Management, Management Information Systems or Marketing)
  • Complete 12 credit hours at the University of Montana by the end of fall semester 2018
  • Enrolled or plan to enroll full-time (12 credit minimum per semester) during the 2018 - 2019 academic school year
  • Hold a cummulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher
  • Complete an online application by March 1, 2018

Graduate Eligibility

  • Apply to the MBA or MAcct program by February 1, 2018
  • Enrolled or plan to enroll full-time during the 2018-19 academic year
  • Complete an online application by February 1, 2018

Can freshman and sophomores apply for a scholarship?

Only students who have completed 30 credits or more by the the end of Spring 2018 are applicable to be considered for scholarships.

How do I apply?

Complete and submit an online application by March 1, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. Applicants should complete all sections of the application and devote some time toward the short answer and essay questions. What are the award amounts for each scholarship?

The scholarship award amounts vary and are competitive. Applicants who meet the criteria for more than one scholarship may receive multiple awards.

Does each scholarship have specific criteria?

Most scholarships are awarded based on academic merit or financial need, although some scholarships are limited to specific majors, residents of specific geographic regions, etc. Applicants who submit an online application by March 1, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. will be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible.

Are any of the scholarships renewable?

Select scholarships are renewable. For information about whether your previous scholarship is renewable, contact Kendall Kihn at All students are required to submit an online application to receive scholarship awards, renewable or not.

Do I have to have financial need?

 Students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA.

Do I have to be a business major?

Only business majors are eligible to receive scholarships through the College of Business.

Do I have to be a full-time student?

You must be enrolled during fall semester 2018 and spring semester 2019. Full-time enrollment status is required for undergraduate students (12 credits minimum) and graduate students (6 credits minimum).

Am I eligible if I graduate at the end of Fall 2018 semester?

You must be enrolled full-time during fall semester 2018 and spring semester 2019 to receive a 2018-19 scholarship. The only exception is if you are graduating in the spring and less than full time status is needed to graduate.

Are all scholarships for Montana residents?

While some scholarships give preference to graduates of Montana high schools, many scholarships are available for non-Montana residents.

I missed the March 1 deadline, can I submit a late application?

Online applications must be submitted by March 1, 2018, at 11:59 p.m.

How will I know if I received a scholarship?
