Career Development Planning for Every Student, Every Year

Whether you are a Freshman or a Senior, be prepared at all levels with your Career Development planning.  The next four years will fly by, so start now and get ahead of the game.

Freshman Year

  • Attend the Big Sky Career Fair.
  • Get to know Faculty and Advisors.
  • Learn about SoBA requirements.
  • Acquire work experience.
  • Meet with a Career Counselor at Career Services and begin to develop a career plan.
  • Take a Career Assessment at Career Services.
  • Make a profile on Griz e-Recruiting.
  • Visit the Gianchetta Student Success Center at SoBA.
  • Make connections-start early!

Sophomore Year

  • Attend the Big Sky Career Fair.
  • Build your resume and interview skills by making an appointment at Career Services.
  • Attend Meet the Firms (for those business students finishing their lower core business classes).
  • Acquire work experience.
  • Complete an internship at the end of your sophomore year.
  • Begin the process of networking. Sign up for office hours, make connections and start working on your pitch.
  • Build your LinkedIn page.
  • Make your social media pages private so that future employers don’t get the wrong impression of you.
  • Visit the writing center and understand what business writing is (versus texting).
  • Visit the Gianchetta Student Success Center at SoBA.
  • Purchase interview clothing so that you have some ready to go at a moment’s notice.

Junior Year

  • Attend the Big Sky Career Fair.
  • NETWORK!!!  You must have the ability to network whether this is social media (LinkedIn) or in person. 
  • Practice your interview skills at Career Services or attend a workshop through the Career Development program.
  • Obtain an internship. 
  • Begin to identify the five top companies you would like to work with. Are they coming to SoBA to conduct interviews? Research what they do and the culture of the company.
  • Keep working on your resume with Career Services.
  • Attend office hours with companies visiting SoBA.
  • Attend Meet the Firms (for those business students who have completed 60 credits or above with a declared SoBA major).
  • Visit the Gianchetta Student Success Center at SoBA.
  • Visit the writing center and understand what business writing is (versus texting).
  • Update your Linkedin page.
  • Attend Networking Receptions at SoBA.

Senior Year

  • Attend the Big Sky Career Fair.
  • Explore full time jobs via Griz e-Recruiting. 
  • Attend office hours with companies visiting SoBA.
  • Make an appointment with Career Services to target your job search and tailor your resume to the jobs you are applying for.  
  • Attend Meet the Firms (for those business students who have completed 90 credits or above with a declared SoBA major).
  • Work on your interview skills by having Career Services record your practice interview.
  • Connect with SoBA via your Linkedin page.
  • Connect with professors and previous employers to begin asking for references for jobs after graduation.
  • Attend Networking Receptions at SoBA.
  • Research Graduate Schools.
