UMEM Course Partners With Montana-Alberton American Legion Baseball
This summer offers two firsts for University of Montana Entertainment Management (UMEM): BMGT 401 Event Management will be online and it will be partnering with the Montana/Alberton American Legion Baseball Tournament.
Director of UMEM Dr. Mike Morelli welcomes 35 students, 17 of whom are MBA students from across the state of Montana. This course focuses on budgeting, marketing, access and ticketing, risk management and a practical application of principles in collaboration with the Montana-Alberton American Legion Baseball Tournament taking place July 26 through July 30.
This year’s tournament will be hosted by our Missoula Mavericks, which recruits players from all Missoula high schools, plus Frenchtown and lower Flathead Valley. According to Denise Dowling, Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Mavericks Volunteer Coordinator, “Having the UMEM students help with the American Legion Montana/Alberta AA Championship has been a great experience for the Missoula Mavericks and, we hope, for the students too.”
“Students are helping our non-profit by designing graphics, photographing teams around Montana and writing stories and press releases about the tournament,” said Dowling. Other students are helping with the opening banquet, opening ceremony, and a bingo game that fans can play during the game.
“We're grateful for all the hard work done by this great group of business students,” said Dowling, “and we look forward to working with Professor Morelli again. We have the regional tournament next year, and it's an even bigger deal!”
