Recent MIS Graduates Jumpstart Careers with Valuable Internship Experience

Thinking ahead to a career after college, Trevor Johnson chose MIS as his major because he was sure that it was a course of study that would lead to opportunities.

Johnson began as a Study Jam tutor helping fellow MIS students.  Soon he also found work as a data analyst in ATG Managed Services, learning the ins and outs of how a consulting firm operates.  He also completed an internship with PwC and continued to hone his business skills in a professional environment.

“As I progressed through the major, I realized that I was extremely passionate about working in a fast-paced environment,” Johnson reflected.  “I also discovered my interests in the more technical aspects if MIS, such as computer programming.”  He’s excited to be working at PwC because his coworkers will motivate him to bring his A game and make use of the technical skills he learned as an MIS major.

Laura Reed majored in both MIS and accounting.  During her academic career, she served as president of the Montana Information Systems Association and completed an internship with KPMG's Seattle office with their IT Advisory practice and joined them full-time.

“I chose KPMG to start my career because of the people I met during the recruiting season as well as the professionals I worked with during my internship. They are people with whom I can see myself spending long work days,” said Reed, “but they also have fun.”

Like Reed, Breshia Hardy chose to double-major in MIS and accounting.  “I cannot speak highly enough of my experiences in MIS.  I hope fellow students take full advantage of the opportunities in front of them to experience all of this for themselves!” said Hardy.

Hardy accepted an internship with Deloitte Advisory in their Seattle office.  She spent last summer working with some of Deloitte's top-name clients, networking with professionals from the consultant to partner level, attending trainings in both Dallas and San Francisco and building lasting professional relationships.

She’s thrilled about forging ahead in her new permanent position at Deloitte this summer.  “The opportunities at Deloitte are so vast, and I look forward to finding my personal niche within the firm.”
