Industry Expert Rob Beckham of WME/IMG Visits UMEM Course
On April 22, UMEM welcomed Rob Beckham into the upper-division Entertainment Management classes. Rob, a UM graduate, has spent the last 20 years as an agent for many notable country artists. He is the co-head of the WME/IMG Nashville office and is responsible for the daily touring, television, motion picture, literary and sponsorship opportunities for Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton, Reba McEntire, Gary Allan, The Band Perry, Chris Young, Jerrod Niemann and others.
Rob brought with him some giants of the entertainment industry. Brian O'Connell, the president of country touring at Live Nation, spoke to students about the dedication required to make a successful career in the entertainment industry. Kerri Edwards, manager for Luke Bryan and president of KP Entertainment, impressed upon students how the importance of following their guts and having passion for their work.
Rob, Brian and Kerri then opened the class up to the students and fielded questions about entry level entertainment management positions, what employers are looking for in new hires and what a typical career trajectory looks like.
