MIS Major Mike Ralston Participates in KPMG Global Advantage Program in Dublin, Ireland
MIS major Mike Ralston took a whirlwind trip to Dublin, Ireland, last summer for KPMG’s Global Advantage (GA) program. The GA program is a three-day training for future KPMG interns that focuses on some of the key attributes of a successful KPMG professional.
About a week following interviews at the KPMG Seattle office, Ralston received a phone call and was told he had been selected for the program.
After breakfast each day in Dublin, Ralston participated in sessions led by National KPMG partner instructors. These sessions prepared the future interns to lead in a variety of settings.
“For me, one of the most important things I took away from the experience was that everyone has different ways of processing and conveying information,” said Ralston.
The future interns also benefited from sessions on communicating effectively with people with varying leadership styles and personalities.
“Another key lesson I learned was how differently business is conducted in foreign countries. I always assumed people operated businesses as we do in America, but I was quite wrong!” he said.
The group finished organized activities around 4 p.m. each day, leaving them with a couple of hours to walk around the city. Their hotel was centrally located in Dublin, so they walked to places such as St. Stephens Green, a historic park, and the shopping district nearby. They also visited Croke Park, home to the Dublin Gaelic Football team.
“All in all, it was a wonderful experience, and I made some great friends along the way!” said Ralston.
Ralston is looking forward to his internship at KPMG Seattle in summer 2017.
