PROFILE:
Simona Stan was
hired in August 2006, as an Assistant Professor of Marketing in the
Management and Marketing Department, School of Business
Administration, at the University of Montana. She moved from the
University of Oregon, where she served as an Assistant Professor of
Marketing for five years. Simona has a PhD in Marketing, with
minors in Psychology and Statistics, from the University of Missouri
– Columbia, in 2001. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical
Engineering from the University of Sibiu, Romania, in 1988.
At SOBA, Simona
is currently teaching Marketing Management at the Undergraduate and
MBA levels. Her teaching experience and interests also include
Marketing Research, Principles of Marketing, Services Marketing,
Industrial Marketing, and Personal Selling. She has received the
James E. Reinmuth MBA
Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Oregon, in 2004,
and the
Donald K. Anderson Excellence in Teaching Award, from the University
of Missouri – Columbia, in 1999.
Simona’s
current research interests are in the areas of inter-
and intra-organizational marketing (e.g.,
boundary spanner support and
inter-organizational/cross-functional relations), services marketing
(e.g., service quality, customer participation, customer
relationships), and international/cross-cultural issues, especially
pertaining to marketing in transitioning economies. Her
dissertation research investigated the phenomena surrounding the
organizational provision of support services to salespeople. She
has published eight articles in refereed journals. One of those
articles won the Outstanding Article Award for the best paper
published in the International Marketing Review in 1998. She
has also presented numerous papers at national and international
conferences.
Prior
to entering the Academia, Simona has gained industry experience,
working as a production management engineer and then as manager of
the New Product Development Plan for a machine tool manufacturing
company in her hometown, Sibiu, Romania. She has consulted on
issues related to service quality improvement for Edward Jones and
Colliers Turley Martin Tucker in St. Louis and for the Premier
Marketing Group in Columbia, MO.
Simona is married to Eduard Stan, a
mechanical engineer, and has a seventeen year old son and a fifteen
year old daughter who go to Sentinel High School in Missoula. They
enjoy participating in many outdoor activities along with their two
Saint Bernard dogs.
