Dr. Douglas received his B.A. in
Economics and Business Administration from the University of
Southern Maine (1986), his M.B.A. from The University of Montana
(1995), and his Ph.D. in Business Administration from The Florida
State University (2000). Prior to his academic career, Dr. Douglas
spent several years as an executive officer in the transportation
industry, including an expatriate position in Canada.
Currently, Dr. Douglas directs
the Entertainment
Management Program for The University of Montana. He has also instructed
courses on Strategic Management, Organizational Behavior,
International Marketing and Management, Human Resources Management,
Industrial-Labor Relations, Organizational Theory, Cross-Cultural
Management and Advanced Social Psychology. While at Florida
State University, Binghamton University, and the University of
Montana he was often recognized for his teaching efforts. Additionally,
Dr. Douglas has served as the Director for Placement
Services for the Academy of Management and as an Executive Board Member for the
Southwest Academy of Management.
Dr. Douglas’s work has been
published in leading outlets including The Academy of Management Review,
The Journal of
Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision
Processes, The International Review for Industrial-Organizational
Psychology, The Journal of Management, Leadership Quarterly, The
Journal of Occupational Health and Psychology, The Journal of Social Behavior
and Personality, The International Journal of Selection and
Assessment, The Encyclopedia of Library and Information Sciences,
Organizational Dynamics, Personnel Relations, The International
Journal of Organizational Analysis, The Journal of Managerial
Psychology, SAM Advanced Management Journal, Voice and Silence in
Organizations, and Research in Social Issues in
Management. His work has also been presented
at the Academy of Management, the Society for
Industrial-Organizational Psychologists, the Southern Management
Association, the Southwest Academy of Management, and the Eastern
Academy of Management. Furthermore, Dr. Douglas has received several
awards for his work that was presented at the Academy of Management,
the Southern Management
Association and the Southwest Academy of Management. Dr.
Douglas also serves on the Editorial Boards for The Journal of
Organizational Behavior and The Journal of Leadership and
Organizational Studies.
Dr. Douglas’s research interests
are primarily in the areas of workplace aggression and work-family
conflict that results from employees’ eldercare issues. However, his
research has involved several other phenomena including, biases in
editorial processes, employee selection, ethical decision-making
processes, expatriate management performance, leader-member
relations, perceptions of employee rewards – dues paying,
organizational culture in virtual settings, resistance to new
technologies, stress, and whistle-blowing.
Most importantly, Dr. Douglas
enjoys spending time with his wife (Judy), son (Andrew), and two cats (Abe & Autumn). Their favorite family
activities include camping, hiking, fishing, and traveling. In
addition, Judy and Andrew like skiing.
