Internship Program


WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

General Internship Guidelines

  • All internships will be taken for a letter grade

  • Internship credit is based on 50 hours of work per credit per semester or full summer session

  • It is desired that students be compensated and/or covered by workman's compensation. Students should also receive similar compensation as full/part-time employees.

  • 298-level internships are available to students who are declared business majors and have successfully completed a minimum of 30 credits prior to applying for an internship. Three credits total, are available at the 298 level.

  • Internships at the 498-level are available to business majors who have completed 60 credits and all business lower core courses.   

o    Students may enroll for up to 6 credits.  If students have taken 3 credits at the 298-level , they may enroll for only 3 credits at the 498-level. 

o     Internships do not replace any required course. 

o    The University allows a maximum of six internship (x98) credits to count toward your 120-credit degree

  • MIS 498 Interns are required to meet with Dr. Jones prior to finalizing their internships

o  Bring your job description, position announcement and transcripts to the meeting.

  • Graduate internships at the 698 level is allowed based on consultation with Dr. Teresa Beed for MACTG or Dr. Bambi Douma for MBA, and Rob Van Driest.  Maximum allowed credit is 6.  All graduate credit regardless of the number of credits taken requires a final project.

  •  If you are completing an internship outside of Missoula and need to be a full-time student during your internship experience, you should meet with your academic advisor, the Financial Aid office and consider UM online courses for additional credits.

  • Attention all Foreign Students:  Any International Business Student who is interested in doing an internship must see Effie Koehn at the Foreign Student office (Lommasson Center 219) before proceeding.
