Internship Program
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
PROCESS
Step One
·
Only business majors are eligible for
School of Business Administration internships
·
Where to look for internships
o
Internship Services and Career Services have partnered to
provide Griz eRecruiting, a FREE comprehensive career
services program designed to assist with internship search and
career preparation. Students must register in order to view any
internships or jobs. You will be able to view internships and
apply for jobs and internships on Griz eRecruiting. To
view the internships go to
www.umt.edu/internships
and click on Griz eRecruiting.
o
SoBA students may also search Internships.com for internships
free of charge – see us for details
o
You may apply for internships advertised on Griz eRecruiting,
Internships.com or other sources that you are qualified for or
you may develop your own internship opportunity.
o
Internship opportunities do not necessarily have to be labeled
as “Internship”
·
Follow the application instructions
included in the position announcement to apply for the
internship
·
If you need help preparing a
resume/cover letter, call Internship Services (243-2815) for an
appointment.
Foreign Students
International students seeking / applying for / or who have
secured an internship, must see Effie Koehn at the Foreign
Student office (Lommasson Center 219) before proceeding.
International students must meet certain immigration
requirements prior to securing an internship. FSSS also issues a
work authorization document generated by Immigration Services.
Step Two
·
Obtain
a job description from the prospective employer and meet with
Rob or Larae who will review the position for credit worthiness
o
This
can be done in advance of you accepting the position
o
The
job description determines whether or not the position is worthy
of academic credit and it determines how the internship will be
classified (MIS, MGMT, MKTG, ACTG or FIN)
·
Accept
the job offer
·
Obtain
a Learning Agreement from Rob or Larae in the Business School
o
The
Learning Agreement is also available online at
http://www.umt.edu/internships
o
Print
legibly and fill out your section at the top completely
o
Use
your umontana email address and the physical address for the
semester of your internship
o
Have your employer complete the middle
portion completely
o
Be sure that you and your employer
both sign the bottom of the form.
o
Attach the job description, on company
letterhead and/or signed by the supervisor
o
Develop and attach 3-4 personal
learning objectives stating what you want to get out of the
experience for yourself
Step Three
·
Meet with Rob (GBB 328) or Larae
Hackney (GBB 327) to review and sign the Learning Agreement and
to determine the course and number of credits for which to
register.
o
Our office will then forward the Learning Agreement over to the
Internship Services.
·
Register and pay for the internship
credits as you would for any other course (Griz Central or Cyber
Bear). Internship credits must be registered and paid for in
the same semester that you are doing your internship.
