PROFILE:
Barbara Reider is a professor of accounting.
She holds one of the two John and Kathy Connors faculty fellowships
in the business school. Her areas of teaching this year
include Intermediate Accounting I, Managerial Accounting, and Advanced
Auditing. Barbara traveled with five UM accounting students in
2007 and 2008 to the Alaskan North Slope where they participated in
the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Fortunately, they
survived the cold weather.
She is the advisor for Beta
Alpha Psi.
Barbara completed her undergraduate
degree in accounting at Kent State University, received her
master's degree in accounting and information systems at Ohio State
University, and earned her PhD in accounting at Kent State
University. While she is a proud fan of the KSU Golden
Flashes and the OSU Buckeyes, you will find Barbara and her husband
Bob in the North end zone of every Griz football game. Go
Griz!
Her professional credentials include
Certified Public Accountant (inactive), Certified Management
Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified in Financial
Management, and Certified Government Financial Manager.
Barbara's publications have
appeared in Issues in Accounting Education, Journal of
Accounting Education, Advances in Accounting Education, Journal of
Forensic Accounting: Auditing, Fraud, & Taxation, and
Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement.
She was the 2006-2007 recipient of
the Outstanding Faculty Award in the Department of Accounting and
Finance. She was also the recipient of the Most Inspirational
Teacher award from the university in 2005-2006 and the outstanding
Volunteer Award from the university in 2007-2008.
In her spare time Barbara enjoys reading, lifting
weights, traveling, anything chocolate, playing with her cat,
kayaking, cross-country skiing, and watching "Napoleon Dynamite."
