Areas of Expertise
Professor Looney is an Associate Professor and the
Ron and Judy Paige Faculty Fellow. His research efforts have
concentrated on two major themes. The first area involves technology
acceptance, electronic commerce, human-computer interaction, and
decision support systems. This inter-disciplinary stream focuses on
the impact of Web technology designs on decision making processes
and performance in financial settings. His second line of research
concentrates on developing intervention strategies to combat
declining student enrollments in the Management Information Systems (MIS)
discipline. Given that the enrollment crisis poses a serious dilemma
for MIS programs worldwide, much of his recent work has examined the
effects of various teaching practices on education and career
choices. His research has appeared in several top
practitioner and academic journals including Management Science,
Decision Sciences,
Communications of the ACM, Communications of the AIS,
as well as the Journal of Computer Information Systems,
Journal of Information Technology Education, and Group
Dynamics: Theory, Research, and Practice.
Related to teaching, Professor Looney has taught a
wide variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Specifically, he currently teaches Electronic Commerce, Systems Analysis & Design,
and Introduction to Management Information Systems. He has
previously taught Project
Management, Operations
Management,
Emerging Technologies, Applications Software Development,
and various topics in graduate and executive education programs. He has received
several awards for
teaching, including the 2008-9 Outstanding Faculty Award, voted on
by MIS students.
