Background Information
Dr. Udo Fluck is a native German
educator, who is based at The University of Montana
(UM), in Missoula, Montana. During the past decade, he
has worked as a curriculum developer, educational
consultant and cross-cultural researcher in Germany and
the United States.The Development of Multicultural Learning Solutions (MLS)
In 2003, based on his initial doctoral research, Dr. Fluck developed Multicultural Learning Solutions (MLS), which provides academic courses and professional cultural and global competence training at The University of Montana. MLS, a unique, hybrid, interactive and award-winning instructional approach to multicultural learning, is utilized to train individuals to become more internationally-minded and competent in today's global world. MLS meets the challenge of today’s changing workplace which demands the need for global and multicultural knowledge and skills.
Since 2004, Dr. Fluck has served as the director of Multicultural Learning Solutions (MLS), holding positions as senior lecturer in the Department of Geography, and adjunct faculty for cultural and global competence in the School of Business Administration and the Davidson Honors College at UM. In 2007, MLS was officially integrated in UM’s Department of Geography, where Dr. Fluck teaches courses in cultural and human geography.
MLS courses, workshops and seminars are developed by Dr. Fluck and based on years of research and experience in international academia. MLS courses are among the fastest growing classes offered at The University of Montana. Since 2004, student enrollment for semester-long courses, workshops and trainings with MLS content increased from 10 students in 2004-2005 to over 450 students in 2008-2009. Dr. Fluck is an expert in developing traditional and hybrid cultural and global competence courses.

Formal Education
Udo Fluck’s key interests in media
production and direction brought him to The University
of Montana in 1989 for his undergraduate and graduate
education. He enrolled in Journalism, with an emphasis
in media production and direction. Fluck was part of a
television production team which received a regional
Emmy Award for a documentary titled ‘Subdividing
Montana’.
Fluck graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Journalism. He also holds a Master’s degree with a
focus in international media management, and was awarded
a second Master’s degree, a M.Ed., with an emphasis in
instructional media technology from The University of
Montana.

In the early 2000s, Fluck returned to the United States in to complete his doctorate degree and in 2003 was awarded a Ph.D., Summa Cum Laude, with an emphasis in pedagogy and instructional technology from his alma mater.
Publications and Awards
Since the mid-90’s, Fluck has been the author, co-author
and presenter of numerous research studies and presenter
at national and international conferences in the fields
of education and business. He is a published author,
with research studies in the Journal of Global Business
and the Journal of Teaching in International Business.
Furthermore, Fluck has received several teaching and
faculty awards in recent years. The prestigious 2009
Community Recognition Award and the 2008 Nancy Borgmann
Diversity Award. Four years in a row, Fluck has been the
recipient of the Faculty Appreciation Award, for
Teaching and Mentorship, by UM’s Office of the
Vice-President for Student Affairs. In 2008 he also
received the Special Recognition Award from Vice
President Theresa Branch. Dr. Fluck and MLS were honored
for the high-quality activities and programs offered
for, and to, UM student. In addition, he received the
2006-2007 Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award in Marketing
and Management from the School of Business
Administration, where he also teaches courses in
cross-cultural management and business ethics every
semester.
Furthermore, Dr. Fluck received the 2007 Best Paper
Award from the Association for Global Business for a
research study titled “Enhancing Global-Mindedness in
International Business Students Using an Online
Multicultural Supplement”. He was also nominated for the
Distinguished Service to International Education Award
in 2007.

Research Interests
Dr. Fluck’s research and interests continue to focus on international education development, professional multicultural competence training and online supplement development.
Travel Experience
Dr. Fluck has traveled extensively in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain, England, Belgium, Holland, Canada, Mexico, and of course the United States of America. He is fluent in English and German.
