PROFILE:
Dr. Erb received his Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University.  Much of his career was devoted to public service including at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, the US Treasury Department and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).  At the IMF, Dr. Erb served as Deputy Managing Director, the number two position, from 1984 to 1994.  Earlier in his career he worked in the private sector at Arthur D. Little and Salomon Brothers.  He periodically taught at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

Dr. Erb brings to the university first hand knowledge of the world economy and the practical experience of managing a large multilateral financial institution with a highly professional and multicultural staff.  He has taught senior/graduate level seminars on the international financial system and the European Union and also serves as a thesis advisor to graduate and undergraduate students.  He enjoys advising and assisting students with respect to career opportunities.

He frequently is invited to give lectures on economic and financial subjects.  He also conducts special seminars for foreign visitors on “The Challenges of Managing a Business in a Transition Economy.”  The latter subject draws on his post IMF work with young companies in central Europe.

During the course of his career Dr. Erb published extensively on a wide range of economic and public policy subjects.  His current research focuses on: the European Union; the treatment of reserve assets and liabilities in the balance of payments accounts; the governance and management of multilateral financial institutions; and the constitutional prerequisites for a stable political, economic and business environment.

Dr. Erb and his wife live on a farm in the beautiful and secluded Moiese Valley where they raise alfalfa and grass hay.  He also is a member of the Charlo/Moiese Volunteer Fire Department and is a qualified EMS first responder.
