PROFILE:
Dr. Douglas received his B.A. in
Economics and Business Administration from the University of
Southern Maine (1986), his M.B.A. from The University of Montana
(1995), and his Ph.D. in Business Administration from Florida
State University (2000). Prior to his academic career, Dr. Douglas
spent several years as an executive officer in the transportation
industry, including an expatriate position in Canada.
Dr. Douglas directs
the Entertainment
Management Program for The University of Montana. In addition to his
responsibilities as the Director, Dr. Douglas teaches the
Introduction to the Entertainment Business, Event Management, and
the Principles of Entertainment Management I and II courses. Outside
the entertainment area, Dr. Douglas has instructed
courses on Strategic Management, Organizational Behavior,
Leadership, International Marketing and Management, Human Resources Management,
Industrial-Labor Relations, Conflict Resolution, Organizational Theory, Cross-Cultural
Management and Advanced Social Psychology.
Dr. Douglas has been recognized
for his teaching efforts on 6 separate occasions. Moreover, he has received
teaching awards while at Florida
State University, Binghamton University, and the University of
Montana.
Dr. Douglas has served as the Director for Placement
Services for the Academy of Management, President and
Executive Board member for the
Southwest Academy of Management, and as a Track Chair for the
Southern Management Association. He currently serves on the
Editorial Boards for the Journal of Organizational Behavior and the
Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies.
Dr. Douglas’s research interests
are in the areas of workplace aggression and work-family
conflict that results from employees’ eldercare issues. However, his
research has involved several other phenomena including, biases in
editorial processes, employee selection, ethical decision-making
processes, expatriate management performance, leader-member
relations, perceptions of employee rewards – dues paying,
organizational culture in virtual settings, resistance to new
technologies, stress, and whistle-blowing.
Dr. Douglas’s work has been
published in leading outlets including The Academy of Management Review,
The Journal of
Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision
Processes, The Journal of Management, The Journal of Occupational
Health and Psychology, The Journal of Social Behavior and
Personality, The International Journal of Selection and Assessment,
The Encyclopedia of Library and Information Sciences, Personnel
Relations, The International Journal of Organizational Analysis, The
Journal of Managerial Psychology, SAM Advanced Management Journal,
Voice and Silence in Organizations, and Research in Social Issues in
Management. Moreover, his work has been presented
at the Academy of Management, the Society for
Industrial-Organizational Psychologists, the Southern Management
Association, the Southwest Academy of Management, and the Eastern
Academy of Management.
The most telling examples of Dr.
Douglas's work are published in The International Review for
Industrial-Organizational Psychology (IRIOP), Leadership Quarterly,
and Organizational Dynamics. IRIOP is widely considered the premier
publication in the field of Industrial-Organizational Psychology
that only publishes manuscripts by individuals that are considered
leading experts in their field. Recently, Dr. Douglas received
Emerald's "Citation of Excellence" for the manuscript he published
in Leadership Quarterly. This citation is awarded to the top 50 out
of over 15,000 manuscripts published in the field of management
during 2007. Finally, Dr. Douglas's work in Organizational Dynamics
was also recognized as being the runner-up for the Outstanding
Practitioner Oriented Publication in Premier Management Journals in
the field of Organizational Behavior for 2005.
Dr. Douglas has also received several
other awards for his work. He has been recognized as the William and
Rosemary Gallagher Faculty Fellow on two consecutive occasions.
He
received the Corning Research Award for Excellence in Research. And,
he has received numerous awards for work
that was presented at the Academy of Management,
the Southern Management
Association and the Southwest Academy of Management.
Most importantly however, Dr. Douglas
enjoys spending time with his wife (Judy), son (Andrew), and two cats (Abe & Autumn). Their favorite family
activities include camping, hiking, fishing, and traveling. |
