PROFILE:

Dr. Costa received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering/Operations Research from The University of Massachusetts/Amherst in 1979 and his Ph.D. in Finance from The Florida State University in 2000.

Dr. Costa’s academic research focuses on executive compensation and mutual fund performance. He joined the faculty at the University of Montana in August of 2000 and teaches courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level in corporate finance, investments, and personal finance. He was presented the Outstanding Faculty Award for the Department of Accounting and Finance for the academic year 2001 – 2002 and the outstanding Faculty Award in Finance for 2007 – 2008

Before returning to academics, he worked in Boston as a manufacturing engineer for two years prior to entering the Navy. Dr. Costa spent 13 years in the Navy on active duty in various positions as a helicopter pilot, test pilot, and assistant navigator aboard the USS Saratoga during Gulf War I. He has flown over 25 different aircraft and has over 2800 hours of accident-free flying. In 1990 he was selected for membership in the Society of Experimental Test Pilots.
These days rather than flying, Dr. Costa is active consulting with the business, legal, and professional community and enjoys hiking and skiing in the mountains along with rafting the rivers of Montana.
